The idea
Tens of thousands of Americans search for tattoo removal every month - and nobody had built them a proper directory. Removal is a fragmented service scattered across dedicated laser studios, med spas and dermatology practices, so the market was invisible as a category. Removal Compass makes it legible: per-session price context, multi-session package math, and real providers with verified ratings in every state, including the military markets where enlistment standards drive steady demand.
The build
The interesting problem was discovery: most providers offering removal do not carry it as their primary business category, so a category-only crawl sees a fraction of the market. The pipeline runs two-path discovery - category matching plus description mining across provider profiles - then deduplicates, applies a 4.0-star quality floor, and ingests insert-only with photos self-hosted on R2. The whole platform - moderation, owner claims, Stripe placements - runs on the shared Compass engine on Cloudflare Workers.
The SEO engine
Every one of the 72 city pages carries unique editorial content tuned to its market - military-base cities note service tattoo policies and discounts, tattoo-culture towns lead with cover-up fading, sun-belt metros cover seasonal scheduling. Thin locations gate themselves out of the index until they have enough providers. Structured data spans HealthAndBeautyBusiness, FAQPage and Dataset schema, and the flagship link asset is the Tattoo Removal Cost Index - typical per-session prices across all covered states, free to cite.
