The idea
Dental implants are one of the most searched - and most opaque - purchases in American healthcare: a single tooth can be quoted anywhere from $2,500 to $8,000 depending on the city and what the quote quietly leaves out. The cost content that ranks is published by media sites with no local answer. Tooth Compass pairs the two: transparent typical pricing by metro, and a directory of real clinics with verified Google ratings, services, hours and photos in every US state.
The build
Server-rendered Astro on Cloudflare Workers with the catalog in D1 and all clinic photography self-hosted on R2 under content-addressed keys - the data pipeline assigns final image URLs before a row ever reaches the database, so the whole ingest is insert-only and re-runnable. A hard quality floor keeps every listed clinic at a 4.0+ Google rating, and versioned edge-cache keys let a deploy invalidate cached HTML instantly. Moderation, owner claims, Stripe placements and transactional email run on the same engine that powers our other Compass directories.
The SEO engine
Coverage is demand-driven twice over: 20 launch metros were picked from keyword validation, then a second expansion added every state plus 17 cities chosen purely on measured search volume for implant queries. All 74 city pages carry unique editorial content with locally researched price context - dental school clinics, cross-border comparisons, insurance notes - and structured data spans Dentist, FAQPage and Dataset schema. The flagship link asset is the Dental Implant Cost Index - typical single-implant prices across all covered states and metros, free to cite.
