The idea
Recreational fishing in the US is a fragmented buyer journey - charters live on booking marketplaces that skim 15-25%, tackle shops live in standalone Google Business pages, guides on Instagram, marinas on chamber-of-commerce microsites. Lure Compass indexes all six categories side by side and hands the contact directly to the angler, no booking fees.
The build
The heavy lift on Lure Compass was the taxonomy - six category types (charters, spots, piers, tackle, guides, marinas) each with distinct editorial and schema requirements. The engine is the same platform behind MedSpa Compass and Tooth Compass - Astro SSR on Cloudflare Workers with D1 and R2 - extended with per-category page templates and cost/tip calculator tools that pull in incidental long-tail traffic.
Why it matters
Lure Compass was the first Compass vertical to require multi-category taxonomy - a template we then reused for Tooth Compass. Every new vertical teaches the engine a new capability that carries back to the others.
